film!

——————-
yesterday, i picked up 3 rolls of film at lunch. and now i’m obsessed with shooting film. these scans don’t do the photos justice, really. but i’m thrilled with the way the rolls came out. the blue-ish tones, the grain, the softness…so nice. i was so excited to show you all, so i used my HP scanner to scan the prints (and as you can see, it picked up some dust!). but i think i might have the rest of the negatives scanned in professionally, so they look true-to-life on the computer.
for those of you who shoot film, what kind of camera(s) do you use? i’d like to start shooting 35mm film, too. i hear a lot about the pentax k1000, but i’d be curious to hear your thoughts…
(oh, and i shot this with kodak portra VC, but now i’m going to try fuji. i am interested to see the differences)
more film to come soon…

these are gorgeous brian. so excited that you are shooting film!
i use a pentax k1000 which i love… i have had it for years and bought it originally in college for a photography class. the prof said that i would have it and love it for the rest of my life and i think he was right! i also have a yashica which i have not used too much and am trying to learn more about…
loooooooooove that last pic!!! my dream is to live on top of the world (not a fan of having neighbours walking like elephants over my head). i shoot my pics with a pentax mx, it’s smaller and more handy than the k1000, but i belive the k1000 is “better”, haven’t tried it though. would be fun!
i’d like to try the k1000 too, but i’ve used a nikon f55 for a long time now. it’s not the flashiest nikon slr but i love it, it has served me well! in addition i use a holga and a couple of polaroids but i have a yashica that i got recently and want to try out soon.
i love my k1000. they aren’t very expensive and easy to find. i need a new scanner, though. my is not working anymore!! what kind of scanner do you have?
btw, i love these photos.
thanks all! this is very helpful. and i am glad you like these shots, too.
that third shot is particularly lovely!
I used to have pentax k1000 and really liked it! But it started to have problems with the shutter and nobody was able to fix it. A friend of mine had the same problem with her k1000.
these shots are quite beautiful brian. i love shooting film so much, i was late to the digital camera thing, and now i’m already finding myself rarely using one. i use an old canonet rangefinder, i also have a newer canon rebel slr and an old olympus om slr that needs to be repaired. i’ve also got a lomo and a toy camera i just picked up (it seems i have a bit of an addiction!). can’t wait to see more of your film shots.
also- i’ve gotten really excited about the kodak portra nc (natural color, as opposed to the vc- vivid color)- i love the tones.
Hi!
I shoot using a Vivitar IC 100 and Holga 120 CFN. For the Holga, I love using Kodak Colorchrome. For the Vivitar, I’m using Kodak Pro foto. I have just rediscovered film though so I still consider myself a newbie.
Love your photos, both the film and digital.
:)
