“almost”

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
one day last week, i was still on vacation but back in NY, and i had the day to wander around. having a free weekday in the city feels like a treat to me. i visited a few favorite shops and had a leisurely lunch. and then i spent some time browsing in another favorite, dashwood books. it is an independent bookstore devoted entirely to photography, and it carries the most interesting stuff. the photos i’m sharing above are from a book i picked up, ‘almost’ by photographer christina hejtmanek.
i keep coming back to the abstract photographs in this small book – they look like images from a dream, don’t they? these are fleeting moments, seemingly captured as hejtmanek cruised down a highway shooting photos through the passenger side window. perhaps she was standing still when she took these, but i like to think that some of these were captured enroute. the colors are soft and muted, and i really like her use of light and her photos of the sky.
when looking through her images, i’m reminded of this photo i shot last year. i also see echoes of photos from flickr friends — this one from mav, this one from molly, and this one from shari. i thought you all might appreciate hejtmanek’s work as much as i do.
cheers to wednesday!
oh my goodness. i love these photographs. when i come back to visit, i hope we can swing by dashwood books. have a superb day and thank you for the inspiration.
Gosh…I am thinking Martha would love this book too. Such a great find.
Yes indeed this work is inspiring and I too see Shari in them. It also makes me think of the one she took of the barn from the car window last year. Remember that one?
Thanks Brian and cheers to your Wednesday!
what a great book! thanks for sharing.
Images from a dream, yes, that’s exactly what they look like. Absolutely beautiful!
oh man! i just got back from new york…if only i knew about dashwood books to visit. next time. next time. this is a beautiful book.
beautiful photos. thanks for sharing them with us brian! i will definitely have to check out dashwood the next time i’m in the city!
so lovely! thanks for sharing… must check out dashwood books!
oh, how i’d love to hold that book in my hands.
The first thing I thought when I saw this was “shari” :)
Thanks for sharing…totally love that last one…
hope you are having a good day.
oh, i must check this store out. looks like a gem. thanks for sharing.
The photos in the book are lovely, almost painterly in their effect. I like that you included your hand in some of the frames, a bit of humanity against all that abstraction.
absolutely dreamy
