what i’ve seen lately
September 20, 2010

. . . . . . . . . . .
sometimes my favorite photographs are photos of nothing at all.
i really like the new menswear from TOAST – see the catalog online HERE. stunning photography by the most excellent emma hardy.
dare i say that flipping through those images this morning made me excited for autumn? i can’t believe it. i’ll be back tomorrow with my autumn list.

These photos seem so autumnal. That photo w/ the apple is just brilliant. And I didn’t know toast had a men’s line now! such inspiring images.

Molly from Orangette linked to you and I am so glad I came to have a look. Lovely photos. They each capture something special. Look forward to coming back for more.
I agree with Rachel – these photos say Fall to me so much. And I love the fig shot.
nothing is sometimes more than something;) I love these pictures – especially first five :)
love this set of photos. makes me wish i could walk along beside you, seeing what you see.
That is one enormous fig! (Or perhaps one smallish plate?) Great set.
love this collection of photos!! so lovely
these are stellar, brain. nice snaps.
maybe they aren’t pictures of nothing, but pictures of what others fail to notice…they are some of my favorites too.
You have a way of taking the photos I attempt to take, but yours have a richness, depth and life to them that I am yet able to capture. Your photos encourage me to keep eyes wide open for the beauty in everyday life and to keep working on and developing my photography skills. In other words, thank you.
your pictures are great! love the second especially.
i’m excited for autumn too!
yeah these are nice
Great stuff!
Question – you seem to be into your cooking good food (a deduction from previous posts), do you have any good recipe books to recommend?
beautiful!
lovely shots. love the shot of the bricks. i’m a little excited for autumn too.
Loving these! The brick corner is so interesting. And who could resist figs, really?
hi brian. i’m a big fan of your blog and photos, but i was wondering, given how observant and reflective of the world you are, how come you always seem to be walking with your head down and looking at your shoes? know that i say this half jokingly, half seriously.
the toast men collection looks GOOD. their photos are always so great.
as are yours. love the mood in these.
this is indeed a very lovely post. i love how the seemingly unspectacular things one sees in their everyday life can actually become something so spectacular.
sometimes the best pictures are definitely of the simplest things. your photography is definitely still some of my favorite man. amazing work.
those photos got me stoked for autumn too! sweater vest and cardigans for the win.
looking forward to your fall pictures!
this are incredibly beautiful. The same happens to me
have a lovely week

i trudged over here from orangette. i was curious. then i saw the picture of the figs and the feet…and more feet, and sandals and beaches and watermelons against sky. i love the hazy intimacy of these photos, like i have been to these places i have never really been. thanks. i’ll fly your friendly skies again and again.
What a truly beautiful and inspiring collection of photos Brian, you are a very talented man indeed.Your images give me a glimpse of a Britain that I miss very much…thank you.
brian, i didn’t think i could love your blog any more until i saw these images. small things like figs or light in an unexpected spot make me happy, so i loved these images very much. i don’t know if i’ve said hi, but here i am now. all the best to you.
The first photos are simply great. Photos of nothing are lovely, I agree.
gorgeous everyday images, love all the oranges and browns. x.
with these ones especially, i loved the experience of scrolling down, elements of one image giving a polite introduction to the next: the angles of perspective, the red/white/blue, the triangles, the greenery, the light…. lovely.
i love your photos
brian- i love these photos, but more than that, i love how you curated+presented them. it feels like they flowed from one to the next, connected either by colour, shape, or light. i don’t know if you did it on purpose or it’s just innate in you to subconsciously make those visual connections, but if you did order then purposefully, how thoughtful. :)
