. . . . . . . . . . . . .
a group of friends and i went to the st. john hotel last friday night, which opened just under 2 weeks ago in the west end. i’d been anticipating this new venture for a while, and we had a great time. we met for drinks in the bar beforehand, and i found my cocktail of choice for the spring and summer: a negroni (i’m glad i have the next 4-5 months to perfect my technique and mix these as well as the bartender at st. john). after a couple of drinks, we went down to the dining room for dinner, which was delicious. pictured above you can see the beans & bacon for two – charlotte and i decided to order it and i’m damn glad we did (as matt joked, “we go to a nice place like this for dinner and you order beans & bacon?!”). everything we ate was really nice – and the finale was the sundae, made up of rhubarb prepared various ways (compote, sorbet, etc) plus one dozen madeleines. as you can imagine, we all walked out with a smile on our face.
there is something familiar about the hotel and restaurant – something that is undeniably st. john – but it also feels new and different from their other spots in london. the decor inside is simple, clean and thoughtful. i liked it.
(the next time i visit, i want to have a little bun moment.)
love no2 its really got something about it
those cocktails look so pretty :)
looks like a great time was had by all!
Negroni’s are the best. An acquired taste and deadly after a couple, but great crisp taste none the less. I like an equal ratio of spirits and always using carpano antica sweet vermouth ( get some its the best out there )
yummy… been wanting to check it out & stay there too (even though we live up the road!) x
yummy… beans & bacon look TASTY!
We want to stay overnight there sometime (even though we only live up the road!) XX
that was quite the meal, eh, ferry.
Top night out — rematch soon please!
hurrah! it is finally open! try a little campari, martini, a top up of prosecco and a squeeze of a blood-orange. tasty.
I’m willing to book a trip to London and have it all revolve around St. John. Was this an early dinner or a slow night?
tom, do it — i’ll happily be your tour guide.
it was a late dinner, actually – i just happened to snap these photos towards the end so it looks quiet (it was packed when we sat down, maybe too packed). by the time i took these photos, it was probably almost midnight. the restaurant is open late (until 2am), though they change over to a late-night menu around 11:30.
completely divine and i am loving the coasters …..
Beans and bacon sounds great to me though^^ I really like your style of composition Brian, makes one look and look.
Punt e Mes is my Negroni vermouth of choice.
what great photos, you really know how to capture the best of everything!
also loving the little pig coasters!
LOVE the looks of this place! I want a little bun moment!!
I hope it’s not rude to have done so without asking — I’m new to blogging — and just linked to your page. Thank you.
can’t wait to try it- it looks so chic and fresh out of Deauville but borders on China town- which I kind of love
