A photographic study of the smoke produced by a small stick of incense in the afternoon light. In the last photo, you can see how the smoke has now started to fill the room, indicated by the haze along the top of the frame.

I’ve been working hard on a new portfolio website – I hope it will be ready next week (fingers crossed). One of the fun parts about this process is going back through all of my archived photographs. Above, I’m sharing 3 photos from France taken in 2011 – in Baron and Uzès. I especially love the 2nd photo, it was a wedding procession through the winding streets of Uzès, it just happened to pass me as I sat on a small wall in the sun. I remember this trip well … it was a difficult time although I saw so much beauty in southern France. I was escaping dreary August weather in London but I ended up spending most of my holiday stuck in my hotel room on conference calls for work, around the clock. I took quick breaks for sunbathing by the pool and a bit of exploring. I still remember picking a peach from a tree on a road near the hotel, after a particularly stressful phone call with a client in India. It was the best peach I’ve ever eaten. Life-saving, really.

Since winter will JUST. NOT. STOP. around here, I needed to post some photos from California in February. Avoidance tactic as I pull on my boots and venture into the miserable GD snow.
(Endless winters: Reason No. 87 to move west.)

Recently, The Aesthete commissioned me to photograph Italian-born artist Gaetano Pesce and his Soho studio. What a wild place! Mr. Pesce was gracious and a fascinating man. His studio, to quote the article, “… feels a bit like a cross between a psychedelic candy store and a journey through the human body.” Well said, Monica … I really enjoyed this one.
Read the excellent article written by Monica Khemsurov and see the feature on The Aesthete website.
“L’Abbraccio“, a new solo exhibition of Mr. Pesce’s works, has just opened in NYC at Fred Torres Collaborations in Chelsea. It’s worth a visit if you’re in the area!

I was looking through some images that I’ve recently collected as inspiration and I noticed a striking similarity between many of them, which was not in my mind as I collected them. This happens every so often – I find myself subsconsciously thinking about photos or other art that shares a similar color palette / theme / subject matter / vibe. I love when I make these connections – and then I can connect it to my work and process.

Side note: the photograph above at the very top left (the grasses at sunset) was part of my L.A. exhibition last year, and I printed it large in a single edition – I love it. It’s the only large print still available for purchase – if you’re interested in owning this, you can buy it (framed) HERE.

Not too much to say, so I’m just sharing a photo from the other day.
