give me music

April 21, 2009

hi friends.  i sure am glad to be back around here today. it was a beast of a week/weekend. and then last night, as i went to download the 3 photos i managed to take over the past 5 days, i accidentally deleted my absolute favorite. lost forever. sigh.

but i am back, and that top photo reminds me of the one i lost. so that makes me feel better. plus, i’ve got some good stuff for later this week, including some food talk and hopefully new film that is currently being developed. stay tuned.

but first, i made a new mix. over the weeknd, i thought about how much i need music (i left my ipod at home that day and felt quite lost). seriously, i need it. it is such an important part of my everyday life and i’m always looking for new stuff that moves me. i’m an awful music critic so i can never say exactly what i like about something … but most of the time, a song or an album just hits me right in the gut and i know that it’s just what i need.

this month, i’m sharing a list of songs that have hit me in the gut like that recently. and most of these got me through a very long weekend.  you can listen to the mix HERE.
track list:
+ pulling on a line (great lake swimmers)
+ furrows (the dark water hymnal)
+ just the past (peter bjorn and john)
+ the treehouse song (ane brun) (thanks, astrid!)
+ i heard your voice in dresden (elvis perkins in dearland)
+ still around (dexter romweber and neko case) (credit for this one goes to shari)
+ heart it races (original by architecture in helsinki, this version by dr. dog)
+ demon host (timber timbre)  (this song kills me)
+ i want to dance with somebody (david byrne, live in paris)

i hope you will enjoy them too, and i’ll see you back here tomorrow!

Have you tried running an image retrieval program on the card? I had to do that once, and it dug up 95% of the images from my last shoot, as well as several from the last few times I’d erased the card. I can’t currently remember which program I used, but if you don’t know of a good one, just shoot me an email and I’ll track down the name of it (the disk is around here somewhere).

    What beautiful photos!
I am the same way about music, I am almost lost without it in my days.
I have two recommendations – Jump, Little Children has been my favorite band for ten years. They broke up in 2005, but their lead singer Jay Clifford has an amazing solo project.
And Steven Fiore, a good friend of mine, he is incredibly talented. His music always hits me in the gut, in the best way possible.

remember when i deleted all of my photos on the way home from the DR? because when it asked me if i wanted to “delete all” i accidentally chose “yes”?? i took it into a camera shop and they recovered them all somehow. if you’re really sad about the photo, it’s an option!

you know how i love your mixes. beautiful photos and i love mav’s comment. sometimes i go for awhile without listening to music and all of a sudden i feel like something is missing. then it dawns on me…i need to turn on music and turn it up loud.

sometimes i wish that life had “apple+z” capability. it would be perfect for recovering mistakenly deleted photos and pots of potatoes that boil over and glasses that somehow miss the tabletop…

but! great mix. i think april might be the best one yet. thank you!

I love your photos, the 2nd one in particular… The playlist is nice too.
It’s great for a beginner like me to see work like yours. Maybe I should start taking a picture a day and I’ll end up taking beautiful pictures just like you!

I added your blog to my blog’s links list. I hope it is okay with you.
