more black & white, and some inspiration

July 8, 2010

. . . . .

lots of friends in town last month … above, jolayne pouring wine and dinner at 32 great queen street (delicious!) with matt, charlotte and astrid.

also, i wanted to share something with you today. i’ve always collected images and words that i find online that are inspiring to me. i used to dump them all in a folder on my hard drive, but what i really wanted was an online “bulletin board” where i could place all of the images side by side. i considered doing a private tumblr site, but decided against it (i have many thoughts about tumblr “blogs” that share the images of others, but that’s a rant for another day).

instead, i found this cool new service called Pinterest and i created an inspiration board using it. you can see my inspiration board HERE.

Pinterest automatically saves the link where you found a certain image, so you can always give credit where credit is due. i like that.  i thought you might like to follow along with me as i find good stuff on the internets. i’ll keep posting to this pinterest page pretty often, so bookmark it/check back as you like.

have a good day.

That’s a great link. I do something similar with the inspirations I find online – all dumped into one folder. It has become large and disorganized. Perhaps I will make my inspiration it into something similar. Or at least organize it as a weekend project. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the Pinterest heads-up. Also liking your B&W stuff. More and better contrast will come with time. Composition tops, as usual.

Loving these B&Ws! I think B&W sometimes just makes a shot more intimate, like you’re peering into a moment …. And thanks for the Pinterest suggestion.

i love your online pinboard, brian! everything works so well together and displays your lovely aesthetic style. you’ve inspired me to try it out myself.

Brian, I am very happy you shared the link to your inspiration board on pinterest. Some lovely jumping off points to explore.

And your forays into b&w film appear to be a seamless addition to your work. Wonderful moody stuff.

ps – I find tumblr easy and liberating (that lovely queuing thing – a nice time saver!) – but then again, I only post my own stuff. nevertheless, I understand your concerns about attribution and rights.

thanks for including one of my shots on your board. i love it!!!

I have found Tumblr easy to use to re-blog (although there is a tendency for the same group of people to sometimes always show the same things) and have always only added things that had a proper linkback to the original site.

Will give Pinterest a go, but looking forward to hearing your “rant” ;)
