Thinking about feeling and summer and the end of things this morning. (I’m listening to the new Grizzly Bear album – so yeah, it’s a pretty heavy morning around here.) There is a slight chill in the air right now and everyone keeps saying, “it feels like fall today!” and I have to admit, it does. I’m happy to wave goodbye to the heat & humidity in NYC for sure (the Union Sq. subway station has become the 9th circle of hell), but I’m not ready to let go of that summer feeling just yet.

Yet this morning, in honor of the first cool morning in months – when hot coffee really does seem appropriate and I’m not reaching for a pair of shorts to wear for the day – I thought I’d share a group of outtakes from my UK travels back in March.

I have very few “summer” memories in London – it was generally mild and often chilly there – so these photos above seem appropriate for a chilly morning. I took all of these when I was visiting the UK, only 3 short months after moving back to the US (I was shooting all of the photos for my exhibition). These are outtakes, I guess.

Someday I will be able to put my feelings about London into words – sum it up neatly when people ask me, “what did you like about living in London?”. It’s a deeply personal reaction for me, even 10 months after moving back to the US – there is a certain something that I can’t quite put my finger on, but it felt (it still feels) so different than NYC feels – feelings are hard to describe sometimes. Maybe these photos above will help? I don’t know if they will – they don’t tell the whole story – but I can sometimes describe my feelings by showing you my photographs.

And for the record, I still do think of London often and fondly, and wish I could travel back there again soon, very much (despite the general lack of a summer).

Enough heavy thoughts for now — the sun is out in Brooklyn today.  It’s warming up. Time to get to work.
