Brazenhead Books for The Fabulist
. . . . . . . .
I recently photographed the inimitable Michael Seidenberg and his “hidden” bookshop on the Upper East Side, called Brazenhead Books, for Aesop’s journal, The Fabulist. See it here: http://www.aesop.com/usa/the-fabulist/brazenhead-books/
Michael is a true gem – a classic NYC character and a very warm & generous host. The current iteration of Brazenhead Books will be closing in a few months, sadly (he’s being evicted by the new landlord of the building). While I was there, I couldn’t help but think (once again) that quirky spots like Brazenhead no longer have a place in the new, renovated, expensive, sleek, homogenous version of New York City. The city begins to feel like one giant, expensive shopping mall now – and an alternative world, a slice of history, slowly fades away.
You can see a great short video about Michael and his bookshop HERE.
Thanks to Sam Cate-Gumpert for this assignment.
