I am so excited to share some big photography-related news with you today, at last.
Early this year, an incredible opportunity landed in my lap – my first major commercial photography job. Along with friends More & Co. and Stephanie Congdon Barnes, I shot a new print ad campaign for Starbucks in connection with their 40th anniversary. !!!!!!
In February, we were hired by BBDO/Starbucks and we flew to Savannah, GA to do the week-long shoot. Quite honestly, it was a life-changing experience for me. It was an incredible opportunity and such a pleasure to do this work alongside my good friends, and I’m really pleased with the work we produced.
The concept for the campaign is about moments of connection with customers. Above, I’ve posted two of the print ads that have run nationally in the U.S. in magazines and newspapers. In March, that top ad above was a full-page advertisement in the front section of the Sunday New York Times! Words can’t really describe how I felt upon seeing my work like that … I’m still pinching myself.
Below, I’m posting just small preview of the work, a few of my own favorite photos from the shoot. More & Co. will be launching their full website soon and you’ll be able to see a lot more good stuff there. Plus, I will have a big portfolio update within the next week where I’ll be sharing my work for Starbucks along with other new photographs of mine. Later this week, I’ll tell you a little more about the experience and give you a peek behind the scenes of the shoot in Savannah.

For now, I just want to say thank you to everyone who reads this blog and supports my photography. BBDO/Starbucks initially approached me because they saw my work on this blog, which really blows my mind. The fact that you take the time to check in here and write to me about my work is very kind, and I am so appreciative of your support. I’m continuously inspired to take photos and to learn and grow creatively; it’s so valuable to me to have a place where I can share that process with all of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

It’s great to see worthwhile artistic work recognised by such an enormous global company, so I offer my heartfelt congratulations, but it’s a bit ironic given that one of the principle themes of your blog is good food and drink?! Starbucks put out some of the very worst coffee going. Well done on the commission, it’s just a shame it had to be something so at odds with your (apparent) agenda! So, as a selfish consumer of your imagery who is probably overlooking your need to make a living, your big news is a tad disappointing. I’m sure you’ve anticipated such a response though, so I’d love to hear your thoughts.
