“… It’s right to praise the random,
the tiny god of probability that brought us here,
to praise not meaning, but feeling, the still-warm
sky at dusk, the light that lingers and the night
that when it comes is gentle.”
– an excerpt from “why i’m here” by Jacqueline Berger, which I read and bookmarked last month.
. . .
today, i have a new mix to share with you. midsummer music: you can listen to it HERE.

great post brian. well done.
haha, you were wrong for nadal. and the photograph with the red lamp is really cool. red lamps rock!
sorry, i meant : you’ll be wrong, concerning nadal :)
cheers, brian! hoping this mix will get me through a deadline-strewn day at work. at least it’s a gorgeous day in seattle and my window looks over the sound, right? happy 4th to you.
the first is perfect. Have a good weekend.
I like these!!
i love the photos and the music lyrics. it all feels summery. i’m excited to try out your music list too. thanks! happy 4th, brian! I’ll let off a ground bloom flower in your honor. :-)
thanks! i was thinking about your music lists lately and wished you have posted a new one. :)
now i’m off to listen…
Love your music lists; can’t wait. Hope this sunny if not hot weather is brightening your July after the awful June we’ve had in London.
like the poem.
thank you for collecting the midsummer songs Brian :)
liking the mix. lovely.
great music suggestions and your plans for the weekend sounds just right for me. love ‘dem photos as usual.
Didn’ t you know July 1 is Canada Day?
Oops, I put “muffled sob” in brackets after the above, but it didn’t appear.
Shadow and lighting look so great, showcasing a little bit of your life (outside world and inside world)… Nice photos.
I’ve been following your posts for a year or so now and I really, really love the pictures you take. But it have one question: By what criteria do you decide wheter to upload a photograph on flickr or just to post it in your blog?
thanks, nik. i don’t have any criteria, really – usually i will upload to flickr a few highlights from a post or maybe a few of my favorite shots from the post.
There are so many things about those first two photographs that I’m in love with.
i like the warm light in these photos, b. and hooray for phosphorescent. wish you could come on over and grill out with T and me. cheers.
wow jacqueleine berger AND a fab mix (that I am listening to on a lovely summer night in Providence, RI)
THANK you!
i’m with all the other people. good post up and down. and that top photo. gaaaa.
amazing light
These look so wintry! But beautiful, especially the first.
good playlist Brian… but a little Patti Smith is needed. Hot dogs were consumed though!
When you decide to take off the 4th of July weight and are diligently cutting up onions, kale and zucchini you need a midsummer mix – thanks for letting me do my zen thing through the raw salad. The first photo does indeed draw you in.
That Jacqueline Berger poem caught my eye on the Writer’s Almanac last month – I also bookmarked it. Sounded in many ways like how my grandparents met – if they hadn’t both arrived late to a mixer (well, officially “hour dance”) they wouldn’t have danced. And wouldn’t have been married 67 years. And wouldn’t have had 7 kids. And I wouldn’t be here. The list goes on.
love the feist cover
Have you ever listened to Yellow Ostrich? Based on this list, I think you’d like them.
