Truth be told, I had the photo on the left in my mind when I shot a series of photos at the beach in California in February, but I had no idea that I would get the shot on the right, which is so symmetrical that it’s uncanny.

I like the echo & dissonance in these 2 photos – urban/rural, east/west … 2 images calling out to each other.

While I was in Vermont a few weeks ago, I spent a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon wandering around the incredible Bennington College campus. It was empty & quiet, so I was able to take in the architecture, public art & scuplture, wildflowers and paths. It’s such an incredible place.

Also- I finally caught one of Yasujiro Ozu’s films at Film Forum last night, during the final week of a whopping tribute to OZU, the Japanese filmmaker. I saw “Late Autumn” and really enjoyed it. His films always make me think about my own photography and work in a way that other films do not. Nothing extraneous, always considered and mellow. I plan to watch more of Ozu’s films this summer on my own. If you are free, you can catch the last 3 films at Film Forum today and tomorrow.

Mike is a lifeguard in Montauk.

I snapped this photo the week before last, while I was shooting a lookbook at the beach – it was early in the morning, and I went into the shack because the light and the window behind Mike caught my eye. He asked me if I’d take his photo and I happily obliged.

Happy First Day of Summer. It’s my favorite day of the year.

My good friends at More & Co. opened a SHOP in the front of their creative studio in Portland, Maine on May 30. I was in Portland for the big opening and it was so great to see what they have done! Their first collection, “GO PLAY”, is made up of fun items for adults and children – all of it is unique and hard to find elsewhere. Art supplies, toys, handmade objects for the home or studio, clothing, and more. And the physical shop space is perfect – including some great furniture/storage pieces built for the space by Krøvel Made.

The best part: they are having a sale tomorrow – the Summer Solstice Free Shipping blast will begin TONIGHT (Thursday) at midnight EST and runs till tomorrow (Friday) at midnight EST. Buy something you will love and receive free shipping for 24 hours.

Take a look at the More & Co. shop right here.

(They are also one of the only US stockists of the Arnold Circus stool, designed by my favorite, Martino Gamper in London. I was happy to learn that my own green Arnold Circus stool was their inspiration to carry these pieces in the shop.)

Congrats to CDR, Ryan, Maria, Lynsey & Chloe on a job well done!

(p.s. – you can see more photos that I took of their shop on their website here)

I missed this place.

This morning, I was feeling discouraged and down about a few things. Looking for something to focus on to move forward, I thought about how much I enjoy posting my work here regularly. It is hard to post here daily as I used to do – film is expensive, my bank account balance is low, and I need to spend most of my time working on other projects.

But I want to get back to posting here much more often. Daily might be difficult, but almost-daily? That’s what I’m aiming for. Even if it’s just one photo; digital, or from my phone, or film … whatever it is, I’m going to do it. I hope you’ll join me and check back here often.

Above, a series of black & white film photos from Maine earlier this month. I’m a big fan of this set.

Better already.
More from Maine tomorrow.

A few photos from Vermont this weekend. It was stormy and beautiful and quiet, and I was able to spend time with some good friends. Lots more to share soon.

I’ve been moving around a lot lately … I was in Maine, then VT, and today I’m off to Montauk for a shoot. Things are busy here, so I’ll check in again once they settle down. In the meantime, Instagram.
